To recognize the many things Storm King faculty and staff do every day in an effort to inspire our students toward success, the Student Council and the SKS Parents’ Association have joined forces to bring us the first ever Faculty & Staff Appreciation Week.

Events involving both students and faculty started out on Monday, November 13, with a “Guess Who” challenge where students were asked to identify as many faculty and staff baby photos as possible. Sophomore Sophia Grausso was the winner, correctly identifying 22 out of the 25 faculty images. On Tuesday, teachers were given handwritten letters of appreciation from their students.

On Wednesday—today—“Coffee, Tea & Sweets” were served to our faculty and staff in Henderson Dining Hall. Three large tables were artfully filled with delicious baked goods brought in by members of the Parents’ Association who graciously served the faculty and staff alongside several student council members.

Parents’ Association President Grace Vazquez, who organized today’s event, expressed her appreciation to the faculty on behalf of all SKS parents. “Storm King is such a special school with a unique atmosphere, and this is thanks to our faculty members. You are all wonderful teachers, and so much more than that to our kids. You all take on so many different roles and responsibilities here. This is just a small way we, as parents, can say “thank you” for all that you do for our children on a daily basis,” said Mrs. Vazquez.

While the faculty and staff enjoyed their “Coffee, Tea & Sweets,” 10th Grade Class Representatives Pierce Pramuka and Thanya Chandran were busy leading a “town hall” style meeting with the entire student body in the Walter Reade Jr. Theatre. Pierce was very happy with today’s meeting and had this to say: “There was a lot of participation. The format of the meeting allowed for Thanya and I to get the students involved and excited about government. I am looking forward to what we can all accomplish this year.”

Faculty member David Mendlewski, who helped coordinate this week’s events, is very pleased with the outcome so far, and encourages students to take part in Thursday evening’s program. “The Student Council has pulled together and created an exciting evening of events. We hope everyone will join us for some fun and laughs to bring Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week to a close,” said Mr. Mendlewski.
