As the trees are budding and the flowers are beginning to bloom, so are the musical talents of Storm King School students. A prelude to our upcoming Arts Weekend, the school community was recently treated to outstanding performances by our music and voice students at the 2024 Spring Music Recital. The event was a moment of reflection for graduating seniors, marking their final musical performance before commencement.

Under the direction of Music Director Paul Connors, the audience was treated to a series of heartfelt performances by the Storm King Band. From the melancholic strains of “Mad World,” featuring Coco on drums, Elspeth on piano, and Dana on guitar, to the emotional rendition of the American Civil War classic “Ashokan Farewell,” with Madison’s emotive vocals accompanied by Sagan on the cello, each piece showcased the diverse talents within our student body.

The transition to vocal performances continued to captivate the audience, with members of the SKS Chorus delivering a series of mesmerizing solos and choral numbers. From Kaitlyn’s solo of Roger & Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music, Andrea’s rendition of “Memory” to Isabella’s version of “Pure Imagination,” each performance showcased the range of vocal abilities of the chorus. To conclude the evening, the full SKS Chorus performed “Favorite Things” featuring solos by Jasper and Dana followed by “Let Us Adore You” with soloists Christine and Nyla.

As the recital drew to a close, applause filled the Walter Reade Jr. Theater, recognizing the dedication of the students and teacher, and echoing the spirit of renewal and growth synonymous with spring. Congratulations to all of Storm King’s talented students for their outstanding performances and a special to the theater tech crew for their work behind the scenes.
