With SKS’ Boys and Girls Cross Country teams clinching their respective league titles recently, our other fall teams are right behind them. Boys JV and Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer, and Varsity Volleyball all enjoyed good sport this weekend as they advance further into the HVAL playoffs this week.

To kick things off, Boys JV Soccer had a well-deserved victory versus Glenholme School, 5-3, in their last game of the season on Saturday, November 2. According to Coach Jim Bennett, it was an important win for the team and set the tone for the other Saturday games. “The JV squad played Glenholme earlier this season ending in a tie, 7-7. When we faced them again, the boys just wanted to show how much they had improved. Our team was the most determined and focused I had seen them all season and it showed on the field. Four different players scored and we led the run of play, moving the ball with surprising ease and accuracy. The team communicated extremely well. All in all, it was the best way we could have ended the season. I couldn’t be more proud,” explained Coach Bennett.

Season standings: 5-7-2

Boys Varsity Soccer also finished their regular season on Saturday with a decisive 8-1 win over their longstanding rival NYMA.  According to Coach Joseph Graziosi, eight different players scored for Storm King “demonstrating the depth and leadership of the team.” The boys finished their season with a 13-5 record and an undefeated record of 10-0 in the HVAL.  “Our team has now run their conference winning streak to 46 matches, a record that dates back to November of 2015.  This year’s four-year seniors have never lost a Hudson Valley Athletic League soccer match.  Storm King has outscored our in-conference opponents 64 to 6. We are looking forward to the HVAL Playoff Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 9 where we will hold the home-field advantage. The team is also excited about the potential of a high seed in the NEPSAC Championship Tournament the week of November 11,” explained Coach Graziosi.

Season standings: 13-5

For Girls Varsity Soccer, their weekend setback against Hoosac (1-0) didn’t seem to faze them as they advance in the HVAL playoffs. Their recent victory versus PDS places them firmly as the third seed going into the playoffs with SKS hosting the quarterfinal match versus Oakwood Friends on Monday, November 4, at 2 pm. With a win, the girls will also host the semifinal match versus Marvelwood on Wednesday, November 6.

Season standings: 5-4-1

After an exciting victory against Poughkeepsie Day School in their last regular game of the season, Girls Varsity Volleyball continued their winning streak Saturday beating NYMA 3-0 in their HVAL quarterfinal match. The win allows the girls to advance to the semifinals at a home game which will take place on Wednesday, November 6, at 4:30 pm. With another win on Wednesday, the girls are positioned to play the HVAL championship game on their home turf later in the week.

Season standings: 11-1
