After a fantastic first week of school, Storm King students spent their first full weekend on the School’s scenic campus. To make sure all of our students had a memorable experience on Opening Weekend,  SKS faculty and staff organized a series of events, activities, and trips that kept the level of fun and excitement high.

The weekend kicked off on Friday, August 31, with several shopping trips which ventured out into the local area, including a trip to an Asian market.  Saturday, September 1, was a busy day for the entire school community. While parents were socializing and enjoying a picnic lunch on Ledoux Terrace, the students participated in this year’s Blue-White-Gold Games.

The games are an SKS tradition where students wear their blue, yellow, and white t-shirts (representing core values of truth, respect, and responsibility) and compete in a series of field games and relay races. This year’s games were played simultaneously in the dining hall,  the gymnasium, and on the athletic field and included a hula hoop relay, a blindfold obstacle course, dizzy bat, and cornhole.

Saturday also featured an important event for Storm King’s student-leaders – the Roy Leadership Workshop. Resident Assistants (RAs), team captains, and student council members attended the interactive session presented by Harvard Business School lecturer Tony Burgess of the Cornwall Leadership Institute. Students also enjoyed an afternoon ice cream bar on campus and an evening campfire before heading back to their dorms for some much-needed rest.

Sunday, September 2 and Monday, September 3, were perfect days for the many off-campus excursions made available to the students, including a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Lake Minnewaska State Park, and a Hudson Valley Renegades baseball game at Dutchess Stadium. Students also enjoyed an outdoor movie on campus on Sunday evening.
