Each year, The Storm King School offers students the opportunity to embark on exciting international trips, providing a unique blend of cultural exploration, service, and adventure. These trips not only enhance the School’s vibrant student life but also deepen students’ understanding of the world, complementing their academic studies and community engagement. Past destinations have included Peru, Fiji, Cuba, the Galapagos Islands, and Italy. This year, students have the choice of three exceptional trips to Iceland, Greece, and Costa Rica—each offering its own blend of adventure, education, and community service.
Iceland (Thanksgiving Break) – This adventure-filled trip combines Iceland’s natural beauty with cultural experiences. Students will explore Reykjavik, visit stunning waterfalls and geysers, and witness the Northern Lights. Along the way, they’ll hike on glaciers, tour volcanic landscapes, and participate in a service project at a local school. Other highlights include whale watching, kayaking, and a visit to the iconic Black Sand Beach and Solheimajokull Glacier Lagoon. The trip concludes with a scenic road trip back to Reykjavik, with a possible stop at the Perlan Museum, showcasing Iceland’s geological wonders.
Greece (Spring Break) – A 10-day journey through the cradle of Western civilization, this trip immerses students in both ancient history and modern Greek culture. They’ll explore iconic landmarks like the Acropolis, the ancient ruins of the Alexander the Great Palace, and the awe-inspiring rock formations of Meteora. Students will also participate in a service project in Aiani, working in a local garden and earning community service hours. Other highlights include cooking and dance classes, visits to local markets, and time to relax by the beach and soak in the hot springs. The trip also features a fascinating underground tour of limestone caverns and a sunset sailing excursion.
Costa Rica (May 23–30, Q-Term) – This service-focused trip to Costa Rica is perfect for students looking to develop leadership and survival skills while immersing themselves in the vibrant culture and natural beauty of the rainforest. Over nine action-packed days, students will hike through rainforests and national parks, visit waterfalls and volcanoes, surf and swim at the beach, zip-line, and snorkel. They will also have the opportunity to engage in meaningful community service projects, earn service hours, and learn about sustainability, ecology, and organic farming. Costa Rica’s warm hospitality and breathtaking landscapes make this trip a memorable and enriching experience.
These international trips offer an incredible opportunity for Storm King students to step outside the classroom, discover new cultures, and make lasting memories—all while making a positive impact on the communities they visit.
