Head of School Lisa Shambaugh is pleased to announce that John Garrett ’63 will address the graduating Senior class at The Storm King School’s 157th Commencement. Ms. Shambaugh shared, “We are honored to welcome Mr. Garrett back to the Mountain on this special day. His extraordinary journey and deep commitment to the environment will offer powerful inspiration to our graduating class of 2025.”
Mr. Garrett graduated from The Storm King School in 1963 before earning a B.A. in Economics from the College of William and Mary. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy, completing tours aboard two Polaris submarines and later serving in shipbuilding operations. In 1974, he transitioned to the corporate world, joining Ferguson Enterprises, where he rose to the position of Senior Vice President. Under his leadership, Ferguson grew from a $25 million company to a $6 billion industry leader.
Following his retirement in 2007, Mr. Garrett remained active in private equity, advisory roles, and environmental entrepreneurship. He currently serves as Chairman of Everyone’s Earth, a company creating innovative biodegradable products aimed at reducing plastic waste.
A recipient of the Storm King Cup and a 2013 inductee into the SKS Sports Hall of Fame, Mr. Garrett has remained a strong supporter of the School, returning to campus to mentor students and share insights from his distinguished career.
The Storm King Community looks forward to welcoming Mr. Garrett back to the Mountain for the School’s 157th Commencement, which will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 10 am on the Stephen P. Duggan Bell Tower lawn.
