Finding the right colleges and gaining admission is hard work. High school students must take the required classes, keep their grades high, fill out many forms, pay application fees, and apply by the correct deadlines among other things. Another important task is to take one or more of the standardized tests for college placement and achieve the highest scores possible.

Several tests are made available during the course of the year including the SAT, ACT, TOEFL, and IELTS among others.  “Which ones do I need?” and “Which one is better?” are only some of the questions students ask regarding these tests. To help them find answers and get them started in the process, SKS’ Director of College Counseling Marti Kwon gave SKS sophomores and juniors a presentation about college placement testing.

During the presentation, Mrs. Kwon explained what each test covers, the differences between tests, how scoring works, and how different colleges and universities view test scores. She also relayed information about how to sign up and prepare for tests like the SAT and the ACT, including the upcoming six-week SAT Prep Course offered at SKS beginning in February 2020.

“My objective is to help alleviate some of the stress students experience this time of year about taking these tests. Informing them beforehand and helping them to understand what each test covers and the differences between them will ultimately help them to make the right choices. For the sophomore class, it is never too early to begin thinking about these tests. I encourage all of our students who need additional coaching in this process to come and see me,” explained Mrs. Kwon.
