In an effort to support our mission of preparing students for college life and beyond, we have instituted approaches to learning that are proven to add depth and breadth to the secondary school curriculum. These include interdisciplinary courses, experiential education, project-based learning and a student-centered approach in the classroom, as well as global travel opportunities.

The signature programs endow our students with creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, social and cross-cultural skills, flexibility/adaptability, leadership and responsibility – the skills they need in life.

The Q-Term is a short, intensive course that provides Storm King faculty and students a chance to explore more deeply subject matter for which they have a particular passion and curiosity. It is a mutual quest for knowledge, outside of the regular weekly schedule and usually, outside of the classroom.

The Guest Speaker Series at The Storm King School brings world-class thinkers, creators, and leaders to our mountain campus, inspiring students to connect their learning with the wider world. Throughout the year, Storm King welcomes distinguished lecturers and scholars from renowned institutions such as Stanford University and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, along with National Geographic Fellows, entrepreneurs, and business innovators. These engaging presentations and discussions challenge students to explore new perspectives, think critically about global issues, and develop the curiosity and confidence to lead with purpose beyond the classroom.

Independent study allows students to learn about a subject that is unavailable in our established curriculum or about a topic students would like to explore in greater depth. During their senior year, students can create their own course, determine their course of study, and then work one-on-one with a faculty member to earn academic credit.
