As 2020 winds to a close and The Storm King School enters a brand new year, the College Counseling Office is working throughout the extended Winter Break to assist our students with everything college-related. This service is especially important for the senior class as they work to meet the regular decision deadlines of US colleges and universities which fall between January 1 and March 1, 2021.

According to the Director of College Counseling Dr. Marti Kwon, the majority of the Class of 2021 will apply to and attend US colleges and universities, and several seniors have indicated they will also apply to universities in other countries including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Serbia, and the United Kingdom.

“Like their peers before them, some members of the Class of 2021 applied under early timelines to the colleges and universities on their lists. However, many have elected to forego applying early action or early decision and will be submitting their applications under the regular decision deadlines this year. Our students are doing a great job in utilizing Naviance successfully, facilitating the recommendation letter process, and submitting school documents electronically,” explained Dr. Kwon.  To date, the senior class has submitted applications to 103 colleges and universities and this number will continue to grow in early 2021.

“I commend our students for their sustained efforts to remain positive and enthusiastic about the college research, application, and admissions process. 2020 has been a year like no other, yet our school community continues to endure and thrive even under the most challenging circumstances. This can-do spirit will reap tremendous rewards in the coming months.
