John Carruthers is Chair of The Storm King School’s Visual Arts Department and teaches various levels of art instruction and an interdisciplinary course in Global History and Art. He has taught in public and private schools in New York City, Yonkers, and the Hudson Valley. In addition, he previously taught Art History at Mercy College and conducts a yearly printmaking workshop at the Art Students League in New York City. In 2020, Mr. Carruthers was awarded the SKS Riley Cup that acknowledges a member of the staff and a student who have contributed to the school’s community ethos in practical and creative ways.
During the summers, Mr. Carruthers teaches for the Artists Association of Nantucket where he was awarded the Randy Goldberger teaching award in 2014 and 2023, the mixed media award in 2013, and was the honoree at their annual gala in 2023. He exhibits his works in various galleries in the Hudson Valley and Nantucket, Massachusetts.
