As winter athletics at The Storm King School winds down, the SKS wrestlers wrapped up their 2019 season by capturing the Hudson Valley Athletic League (HVAL) championship title. On Thursday, February 21, Storm King finished with one win and one loss in league competition at their last bout of the year held at the Marvelwood School. The Cougars succeeded in defeating Woodhall School 42-30 before succumbing to Marvelwood by a 48-36 tally. They finished 4-1 in the HVAL capturing the championship, with a record of 5-5 overall.

Storm King had winning performances from freshman Javier Irrurita and from seniors Andy Zhou and Jason Lin who finished their wrestling careers at Storm King School on a very strong note.  According to Coach Tim Gillett, the two seniors will be missed next year as the Cougars look to build on the foundation they forged this season with a maturing group of hungry underclassmen, including eighth-graders Luke Ciunga and Sean Ryan, and many freshmen including Trey Lawrence, Angel Sosa Bueno, Joseph Louis, and David Coronado to name a few. “We’ve been in the process of building our team this year, with many newcomers to the sport. I’m very pleased with the efforts of each and every wrestler this season. Our graduating seniors will be missed, but I’m confident that all of our rising talents will make for a great season next year and beyond,” said Coach Gillett after the final match.
