This year’s Alumni Basketball Game was an hour packed full of fun, excitement, and great play on both sides. Following a narrow defeat last year, the Storm King Student/Faculty Team made a last-minute comeback this time around to beat the SKS Alumni Team 46-43. The game took place on Sunday, February 11 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm in the SKS gymnasium.

Before the tip-off, junior Allegra Walker sang the National Anthem acapella to a standing crowd.  The game started out fast as the alumni faced a strong group of student-athletes and faculty members with several players being well over the 6-foot mark. By the middle of the first half the faculty/students were ahead by more than 15 points thanks to great play by Assistant Headmaster Alan Lewis, Science teacher Mike Vondras, and the team’s secret weapon Dean of Faculty Jeremy Freeman, to name a few.

Despite the early lead, the alumni team kept the pressure on throughout the first half.  Greg Facey and Sele Birchwood led the charge, making several lay-ups that kept the score moving with great assists by Steve Bluth, Larry Lepisto, Charles Cordero, Luke Sollami, and all of the other players who participated. By half-time, the alumni succeeded in closing the gap to less than 10 points!

Throughout the second half, the Alumni Team kept the heat going until both teams were tied at 43-43 with only five minutes left on the clock. The crowd was screaming as the faculty/students pulled ahead in the final seconds of the game with a free throw and a basket to defeat the alumni 46-43. In the end, the alumni weren’t too upset by this year’s loss. All had a great time and agreed that the most important thing was getting back on the court at their alma mater, seeing one another, and having fun.
