On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, the SKS community gathered in the Walter Reade Jr. Theatre for yet another show featuring the talent of Storm King’s music and voice students– the Winter Music Concert. The concert showcased the hard work and skills the students achieved during the fall semester with instrumental and vocal performances from many different musical decades and genres.

SKS Band Ensemble: Thomas C. ’23 on bass, Yuecheng Z. ’23 on drums and keyboard, NaRae T. ’24 on guitar and vocals, Ke Dana X. ’24 on guitar, Madison B. ‘24 with vocals, Rebecca B. ‘24 on keyboard and vocals, Zimo Y. ‘26 on drums; SKS Vocalists: Nina G. ’23, Laurel P. ’23, Eniola K. ’23, Ke Dana X. ’24, Madison B. ‘24, Jasper L. ’24,  Aitana G. ’24, Yiting L. ’24, Mac M. ’24, NaRae T. ’24, River T. ’24, Andrea L. 25’, Nyla A. ’25, Mei Ki L. ’25, Christine S. ’25, Isabella B. ’26, Kaitlyn M ’27.

Following a short introduction by Music Director Paul Connors, the band ensemble kicked off the concert with the Eagles hit “Hotel California” along with Tame Impala’s upbeat instrumental “The Less I Know” and the soulful hit “After the Storm” by Kali Uchis.

Next up, SKS’ voice students took to the stage performing a series of captivating solo performances. Ke began with an ethereal performance of “Walking on Air” from the animated winter classic, The Snowman, followed by Christine singing “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz.

Fans of Broadway enjoyed performances of “I Dreamed a Dream” by Andrea and “On My Own” by Isabella from Les Miserables, an emotional solo ofJourney to the Past” by Laurel from Anastasia, “No One Else” from Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 sung by Aitana, and the West Side Story classic “Somewhere” by Nina. Madison’s rendition of Hozier’s haunting pop hit, “Take Me to Church,” was also a highlight of the evening.

After the solo performances, the SKS choir convened on stage led by Ms. Mikova-Johnson to sing “You Must Love Me” from the motion picture Evita and “I Still Believe” from Miss Saigon highlighted by the  solo performances of NaRae, Andrea, and Nyla to conclude the evening.
