The Storm King School campus was buzzing with activity as 160 young scholars from 21 countries and 10 states arrived for the 2022-2023 school year. The first round of registration began on Tuesday, August 23 for new international and day students who spent the week immersed in activities and trips geared toward helping them get acquainted and settled into their new surroundings. The program culminated in an exciting four-day trip to Washington, D.C.

During their stay in our nation’s capital, the group toured the National Mall, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, the Smithsonian Museums of Natural History and American History, and the Pentagon among other historic locations. They also sampled great food including lunch at the DC Hard Rock Café. The group topped off their trip with a visit to Six Flags America before returning to campus.

The second round of registration for new and returning boarding students took place on Tuesday, August 30.  Students and families spent the morning checking in at various tables set up in Orr Commons and around the campus, meeting with the Assistant Head of School for Academics to finalize their classes, and completing their sign-ups for fall athletic teams and activities. After lunch, families had the option of taking a student-led tour of the campus and attending a Parents’ Meeting in Ogden Hall. After their families departed, all students got acquainted at their first dinner on campus before settling into their dormitories for some much-needed rest.

The fall semester officially begins with the first day of school on Wednesday, August 31 with more orientation activities in store. For the rest of the week, students will participate in the School’s traditional “color games,” hike up Storm King Mountain on ‘Mountain Day,’ and begin athletic practices before classes begin on Tuesday, September 6. We wish all of our students, faculty, and staff a great semester!
