The Storm King School is pleased to announce that Director of College Counseling Martha “Marti” Kwon was recently awarded her Ed.D. (Doctorate of Education) from George Washington University. Dr. Kwon received the good news upon the successful defense of her dissertation entitled Student-athletes, Autonomy, and Self-authorship Amidst the Organizational Culture of Athletics.

A Virginia native, Dr. Kwon earned her B.A. in History from the University of Virginia, and her M.Ed. in College Counseling and Students Services from the University of Maryland. Prior to her arrival at Storm King, she served in various administrative positions at the United States Naval Academy, the Gunston School, and the Seisen International School in Tokyo, Japan.

“Pursuing a doctorate was not only a professional decision but a personal one. I have always enjoyed challenging myself and striving to learn new things and the field of Education offers endless possibilities. I am so excited to have (finally) completed my dissertation and to have received positive and constructive feedback on my work. My hope is to continue on this journey of lifelong learning and instill this same passion for learning in our students here at Storm King,” explained Dr. Kwon.

Please join the Storm King School Community in congratulating Dr. Kwon and celebrating this hard-earned accomplishment.
