The boys varsity basketball team had another great week when they traveled to Connecticut and scored two road victories to improve their season record. On Wednesday, January 29, the Cougars bested the Master’s School of Simsbury, CT, 76-48.  Cinque Robinson led four players in double-figure scoring with a season-high 19 points. On Saturday, February 1, the team traveled to the King School in Stamford, CT, and played in front of a boisterous home crowd, besting the Vikings 58-41.  The Cougars were powered by a strong, pressing defense and 22 points from sophomore Josiah Diaz.  These two wins bring the team to an 11-2 record overall as they prepare to face Hamden Hall Country Day School at home on Wednesday, February 5.

The girls varsity basketball team also celebrated a double win last week, overcoming Poughkeepsie Day School 50-40 on Monday, January 27, and Oakwood Friends School 40-28 on Wednesday, January 29. With a record of 5 wins and 3 losses to date, the girls will play again on Wednesday, January 12 at the King School in Connecticut.

 

 

The boys JV basketball team had home advantage on Wednesday, January 29, when they hosted Woodhall School, winning the match-up 50-36. The Cougars were led by senior Junxi (Jesse) Li who scored 10 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 5 steals. Senior Chi Yuan (Wilson) Shih chipped in 12 points, 2 assists and 5 steals. Junior Mason Popowitz gathered 13 rebounds and 8 points, while freshman Joohwan (Max) Choi had his best game of the season to date scoring 6 points and snatching 9 rebounds. The win brought the JV Cougars record to 5-2. The team will face NYMA away on Wednesday, February 5.

The SKS wrestlers continued their HVAL winning streak at Marvelwood on Wednesday, January 29 where they defeated 4 out 5 teams including host Marvelwood 60-11, along with rivals Woodhall 42-27, Hamden Hall 60-48, and NYMA 54-24. Their only loss of the day was to Foreman who overcame SKS 54-30. Junior Wonui Kim (152 lbs.) had 2 pins, freshman Warren Stone (170 lbs.) had 2 pins, and freshmen Eljus Prifti (132 lbs.) and Nick Avaras (138 lbs.) had 1 pin each. The Cougars currently stand with 6 wins and 0 losses in their league as they prepare for the JV Jam at #1 ranked Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT, on Wednesday, January 5. The team’s last league matches will take place at SKS on Wednesday, February 19, where SKS will look to clinch another league title.

The SKS bowlers also added to the string of wins on Monday, January 27, overcoming NYMA by 18 points in the third game of their 3-game match. Individual game scores were 158-125 in Game 1, 112-134 in Game 2, and 119-101 in Game 3.
