With the 2017-18 school year nearly upon us, The Storm King School is excited to welcome 5 new faculty members into our diverse and global community.  Headmaster Jonathan Lamb introduced them during faculty orientation which took place this week.  “We are pleased to welcome these new faculty members who will bring experiences and skills that will enrich us, offer new perspectives and  ideas, and inject new ways of thinking in our mission, help our students learn, achieve and develop,” said Lamb.

Along with their professional qualifications, all of our newcomers offer something unique to our already vibrant faculty roster.

Benjamin Harnick will lead Storm King’s service-learning and summer programs this year, as well as teach 8th grade Art. Ben is a graduate of SUNY Purchase and brings experience in Pre-K program management and summer camp development. He is also an anthropology enthusiast and enjoys hiking, climbing, and biking.

Michael J. Vondras joins the Science Department as a biology teacher. Michael is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and has spent time since working as an aquarium specialist and teaching marine biology to homeschool students. He is also an avid guitar player and a former standout baseball pitcher .

Alva Nelson, a graduate of Sam Houston State University, will lead Storm King’s music program this year. Alva is an accomplished jazz pianist who has worked with well-known musicians including Dionne Warwick, Regina Belle and Michael Franks. He has numerous credits in theatre and as a composer and discographer.

Lindsey Plummer joins the Math Department after returning from a year in France and her work at the Emily Dickenson Museum. Lindsey is a graduate of Amherst College and enjoys cycling, field hockey and swimming among other sports.

Madeleine “Maddie” Schade joins Storm King as a teacher in the History & Social Sciences department. Born in the United Kingdom, Maddie attended Hun School in Princeton and is a recent graduate of Hobart and William Smith. She has experience with young people tutoring and in camp settings, and enjoys playing lacrosse.
