Dr. Marti Kwon, Director of College Counseling

With virtual learning off to a great start this week at The Storm King School, the Office of College Counseling is also back online and ready to continue its work with our juniors and seniors during this important time of year. Staying connected with the students via the School’s online college placement platform Naviance, Director of College Counseling Dr. Marti Kwon is pleased to report the latest stats on the senior class.

“The Class of 2020 started the calendar year with a bang as they finished up and submitted nearly 600 applications for admission to colleges and universities across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Australia, and Singapore. For this class, the average number of colleges/universities applied to was 9. That is up by one from last year’s class average of 8. Along with this, Storm King faculty submitted a total of 117 letters of recommendation in support of the Class of 2020,” explained Dr. Kwon.

“The news of acceptances to these institutions continues to roll in, despite the disruptions the Coronavirus outbreak has caused. Even though I can’t enjoy seeing the seniors come into my office to write their college acceptances on the board (as per tradition), they are connecting with me virtually using Naviance. So far, the list of acceptances is very impressive and there is still more to come,” explained Dr. Kwon.

This year’s notable acceptances to date include University of Chicago, NYU Stern, NYU Tisch, Tufts University, Bard College, Wellesley College, Purdue University, Pratt Institute, Drexel University, Pennsylvania State University, Ohio State University, University of Massachusetts, University of Vermont; University of California–San Diego, Irvine, Merced, and Santa Cruz; University of Virginia, University of Washington, The George Washington University, University of Toronto, Central Michigan University, University of Connecticut, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Culinary Institute of America, Rutgers University, DePaul University, University of Delaware, Dominican College, The Citadel, Norwich University, Emerson College, Florida International University, University of Miami, University of Michigan, Arizona State University, Art Center College of Design, Belmont University, Institudad Technological y Estudios de Monterrey, Boise State University, Ringling College of Art and Design, Florida State University; State University of New York at Albany, Binghamton, Cortland, Geneseo, Oswego, and Stony Brook; Fairfield University, University of the Arts (Philadelphia), Berklee School of Music, Jacobs University-Australia, Washington University of St. Louis, and Wagner University.

“I’m very excited for this year’s senior class. They’ve applied to many excellent schools and have a lot of choices. I’m looking forward to remotely assisting any students and families who need help in deciding between more than one great college or university. The College Counseling Office is here to support all of our students as we navigate these new challenges together,” continued Dr. Kwon.
