Boys Varsity Basketball

 

Boys Varsity Basketball finished January with a nail-biter against their historic rival NYMA on Monday, 1/31. Excitement was high throughout the game on both sides of the court as the Cougars kept up the pressure with a strong defense and great play. With 10 minutes to go in the second half, the team was up by 12, but a late rally by the Knights resulted in a 2-point loss, 67-69 for the Cougars.

Two days later, the Cougars came out roaring for their first game in February on Wednesday, 2/2, versus Marvelwood. From the starting buzzer, Storm King put on the heat to achieve an early lead over the Pterodactyls. The Cougars maintained a comfortable margin throughout the game, cruising to the final buzzer and a 67-33 win.  All 10 Cougars in uniform had the opportunity to score, including the first baskets for several players.

Next up, the boys tip-off against the Rocky Hill School on Saturday, 2/5.

 

Girls Varsity Basketball

 

The girls varsity basketball team closed out the month of January hosting Winchendon School. It was a tough game for the Cougars, who fought hard throughout but were outplayed by this strong opponent. According to Coach Miller, it was a great learning experience for the team despite the 44-51 loss.

Rebounding quickly for a resounding win, 58-39, over School of the Holy Child on Wednesday, 2/2, the girls will have a chance at redemption when they travel to Boston to play on Winchendon’s courts on Saturday, 2/5.

 

Wrestling

 

For the SKS wrestlers, January ended on a positive note, especially for senior Michael H. ’22 who won all 3 matches against NYMA, Hamden Hall, and Greenwich Country Day School. Junior Luke C. ’23 also finished the month with a smile, winning at 126 lbs in overtime against NYMA.  According to their coaches, the entire team sported great performances and wrestled hard, ultimately falling to their opponents.

Their first bout in February brought the SKS wrestlers to Woodhall School for a 4-way tournament including Marvelwood, Suffield Academy, and Greens Farms Academy on Wednesday, 2/2. Junior wrestler Thomas C. ’23 continued the Cougar momentum emerging victorious at 170 lbs over his Marvelwood opponent, followed by Michael at 160 lbs and Luke at 120 lbs.

For their first home tournament in February, the wrestlers will host NYMA on their home mat on Saturday, 2/4 at 11 AM in the gym. Go Cougars!!
