Students in Storm King’s dance program showed off their moves just in time for the holidays, including a surprise performance inspired by New York City’s legendary Radio City Rockettes.  It all happened at this year’s Winter Dance Recital that took place on Thursday, December 7, in the Walter Reade Jr. Theatre.

The show, which featured choreography by Dance Instructor Jeanette Perk Jacobson, was highlighted by diverse musical selections, colorful costumes, and excellent lighting.  According to Mrs. Jacobson, “we have 16 girls in the dance program this year, and all of them have been working very hard since the fall to perfect their routines. This recital featured 20 different numbers that allowed the girls to showcase their versatility in different styles such as ballet, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary, and musical theatre dance.”

Guests were treated to group numbers including Rise Up, Move Your Body, Sorry-Not Sorry, and Praying and an emotional rendering of Creep. Eclectic duo performances and solo routines by the senior dancers including Fire Meet Gasoline with Stephanie Appiah ’18, River with Giselle Morales ’18, and Control with Elizabeth Pomeroy ’18 all served to captivate the audience. The showstopper was the final number I Want to be a Rockette that featured all 16 dancers in festive holiday attire locked arm in arm and kicking high in the air reminiscent of the Radio City Rockettes in New York City.

“The show ended in cheers from the audience and the final number got everyone into the holiday spirit,” said Mrs. Jacobson with a smile. “The support of the audience is so important for the girls and it makes all their hard work worthwhile. Thank you to all who attended and applauded our dancers. Many thanks also go to Liz Connell, the show’s technical director and the technical assistants A. River Holasek ’20 and Zoe Stene ’19 who put the finishing touches on this year’s show.”
