With the School’s enrollment at an all-time high, it is a very exciting time in Storm King’s Department of Athletics. Fall has always been a great season for Storm King student-athletes, but this year, Athletic Director Joseph Graziosi has loftier goals than ever. He has declared this season “The Drive for Five” – a quest for all five fall teams to win all five league championships offered in the fall, a feat that has never been accomplished by SKS or any school in its league.

“With these consistently high enrollment numbers, the Department of Athletics has been able to expand its offerings this year. For the first time, Storm King has fielded a girls cross country team – a new addition to our fall sports roster. In previous years, our female runners were included in the boys cross country team practices and races. Having an independent girls cross country squad means that SKS is now represented in all of the five varsity sports offered in our conference, The Hudson Valley Athletic League (HVAL),” explains Mr. Graziosi.

Based on the outstanding records of our fall teams in recent years, Mr. Graziosi is confident that with the addition of girls cross country, there will be nothing to hinder the Cougars from capturing all five league championships. “Our boys cross country team won the conference championship for the past three seasons – 2015, 2016, and 2017 – while the boys soccer team captured the title in 2014, 2016, and 2017.  Meanwhile, the girls soccer team also claimed back-to-back championships in both 2016 and 2017,” continues Mr. Graziosi.

“Already, these three teams are poised to emerge as repeat conference champions again this season with their rosters including some of the strongest student-athletes we’ve had in recent years. In addition, the girls volleyball team has played valiantly in the past five championship matches and they are ready to take the next step by bringing home the league trophy this year. Now, with the addition of the girls cross country team, there is nothing to stop us from “driving for five” championships this season,” Mr. Graziosi explained.
