The Storm King School Model UN Team traveled to The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York, recently for the 2nd annual Masters Model UN Conference (MasMUNC II). The students participated in multiple committees, including two General Assemblies–the NODC which dealt with human rights and security within prison systems and the WHO (World Health Organization) which discussed topics including infectious diseases in conflict zones and health threats caused by climate change.

Specialized committees included the Paris Peace Conference which explored solutions for a united Europe following the horrors of WWI and the Silicon Valley committee which discussed the prevention of future bank failures after the Silicon Valley Bank Crash and its effects on the US economy. Several SKS delegates participated in the triple Joint Crisis Committee which explored the rising tensions between the US, China, and Russia and debated strategies to prevent the ever-increasing threat of armed conflict. “This was a great opportunity, and we are excited to see where future conferences will take us” commented Burak O. ’25 who debated as the Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu and Theo B. ’26 who had the role of Mikhail Pogosyan, a Russian aerospace engineer.

“The conference was a wonderful experience and our team performance was outstanding,” commented MUN faculty advisor Tim Gillett. “Everyone worked hard to prepare, research their topics, and learn about the current situations at hand.” By end of the day, all the delegates agreed that the conference was a lot of fun, a great opportunity to make new friends, and overall, “a very unique experience.”

Congratulations to the SKS MUN Team, who will travel next to Washington D.C. in February to attend the  North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) along with more than 3,000 participants from high schools around the nation.
