The stage at the Walter Reade Jr. Theatre has come alive once again! Mrs. Fulton’s Acting class has been busy this semester rehearsing scenes from Same Room, Different Story– a vignette play by Claire Broome.

Same Room, Different Story is a popular play for high school students that explores relationships and situations that speak to today’s teens in a variety of genres with flexible gender roles. After all, ‘a teenager’s bedroom is important. It’s a place to hide, to consider choices, to reveal. And sometimes, it’s a place to practice the periodic table. Stories can be found under the bed, in a suitcase, in a box that may or may not hold body parts…’ As its synopsis implies, the play features four short vignettes that each take place in a single room.

Performing Arts Chair and Acting Teacher Anne Fulton chose Same Room, Different Story as the fall class project because of its mix of comedy and drama, and the flexibility of the “vignette” format. “Most of the students in the class were acting on stage for the first time, and the dialogue was suited to teens. The themes in the vignettes were relatable: interacting with friends, falling in love for the first time, studying for exams and even losing a friend. The students really enjoyed working on the play and were happy to have it filmed so their families have a record of it,” she explained.

For our community’s enjoyment, here is the video of the performances that showcases the students’ hard work. The class wishes to thank Mr. Kiperman for filming and editing, and Mrs. Brown for setting up the microphones.
