After nearly four weeks of uninterrupted in-person instruction following an extended winter break, The Storm King School is celebrating the academic achievements of our students from the Fall 2020 semester despite the challenges they faced due to the continuing pandemic. In a virtual ceremony launched to the school community, the Winter 2021 Academic Awards, fondly called “Book Awards,” were presented to individual students from each class offered at SKS in recognition of their hard work.
In his opening words, Dean of Academics Dr. Timothy Lance explained that “each student we recognize is committed to the active pursuit of excellence and that each has developed habits and attitudes which will serve them well beyond today. Our faculty members, who have given many years to working with young people, celebrate this opportunity to lift up and emphasize the ideals of scholarship, creativity, perseverance, and character that are so important to our work and our school.”
The virtual event also featured the induction of 13 new members to the Storm King Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS): Seniors Jedianne Graham, Olivia O’Blaney; Juniors Anora Mahin, Sofia Bove, Zoe Buddie, Anna Nhu Nguyen, Elizabeth Jiang Ding, Alisdair Neighbors, Alexandra Zischke, Theresa Gormley, Seth Vieira, Yiwen Fiona Ji, and Hugh Lawrence.
New inductees to the Society are carefully chosen by SKS faculty for their outstanding performance in the four areas the NHS deems essential for its members– Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with NHS membership since its founding in 1921.
Congratulations to all of the award winners for their achievements this past fall. Many thanks go out to the faculty and staff for all of their efforts with our students.
