Lisa Shambaugh
HEAD OF SCHOOL, THE STORM KING SCHOOL

Lisa Shambaugh is The Storm King School’s 18th Head of School since its founding in 1867, beginning her tenure in the summer of 2024. She is a well-known and highly respected career administrator and educator. Before joining The Storm King School, Lisa served for nine years as the Assistant Head of School for Enrollment and Strategic Projects at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland.

At St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, Lisa was a key member of the senior administrative team overseeing a period of transformative growth in both enrollment and reputation. She led the international student program and spearheaded a multi-year initiative to create and refine professional growth pathways for employees. As a trained diversity practitioner and facilitator, Lisa has written about anti-bias practices in admissions for the NAIS Independent School magazine and presented nationally at conferences.

Lisa began her career in college admissions at Barnard College, followed by alumni engagement and admissions outreach at the University of California, Berkeley. She then worked at Crystal Springs Uplands School in California and Georgetown Day School in Washington, D.C., before joining the St. Andrew’s Episcopal School community. Originally from Colorado, Lisa holds degrees from Vassar College and an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In 2018-19, she was selected for the NAIS Aspiring Heads Fellowship.

Lisa resides in the Homestead with her husband, Jay Shambaugh, an economist and professor currently serving as Under Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and their dog, Perseus. Lisa and Jay have two adult children, Tyler and Jack.
