The warm weather is finally here which has been good news for the Storm King Cougars, who continue to practice and gain competitive momentum as their spring season progresses.

Following a loss to Greenwich Academy at their first game of the season, the girls lacrosse team hosted Kent School on Wednesday, April 12.  Ari L.’24 scored 2 goals and Bella S. ’24 scored 1 goal for a final score of 3-6 in favor of Kent. “The girls played very hard. Marina D. ’25 did a great job in a new position as a midfielder and Katja M. ’26 stood out as a defender. She was there when a Kent player was open and managed to hang back and help protect goalie Nicole T. ’24,” explained Coach Cervantes.

The Cougars will take this important field experience and play for a win when they travel to Harvey on Saturday, April 15, for their next face-off.

After a disappointing day at Harvey for their season opener, the baseball team traveled to Bridgeport, Connecticut to face Capital Prep Harbor on Friday, April 7. The Cougars came out roaring, pounding out five extra base hits en route to an 11-0 victory over their opponents.  SJ L. ‘25 went 4-4 with a triple, double and 3 RBI to lead the charge. The following week, the Cougars hosted the Oakwood Lions at Kristi Babcock Field on Wednesday, April 12, for their first league game of the season. SKS jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning, but the bats fell silent late and the Cougars struggled to make plays in the field, ultimately leading to a 4-12 loss.

The Cougars are hoping for redemption when they travel to Hoosac on Friday, April 14, for their next game.

The girls tennis team has been practicing faithfully and gaining important court experience as their spring season progresses. For their season opener, the Cougars traveled to Marvelwood on Saturday, April 8, for a tough match ending with a final score of 3-4. For their second match, the girls hosted Hoosac on the SKS courts on Wednesday, April 12, where they suffered another disappointing loss. The team will strive for redemption when they travel to Harvey for their next match on Friday, April 14.

Coming off their win against Montfort Academy earlier in the month, the Cougars played a tough game at EF Academy on Wednesday, April 12. “The team started off with a lot of nerves. We made a lot of controllable mistakes and gave the opponent a lot of points,” explained Coach Cervantes. “Going into the second set, we had shaken off most of the issues and controlled the tempo of the set to take the game. In the third set, our confidence waned and we finished very close at 25 – 23. In the 4th set, we lost our momentum, yielding 25 – 22 giving up a strong lead.” Commanding performances were noted by Lancus L. ’24, Max C. ’23, Ren T. ‘26, and Jack G. ‘23.

The Cougars will be on the court again to serve against Montfort Academy on Wednesday, April 18.
