During the second half of November, the boys and girls varsity basketball teams have been training hard at practices and gearing up for their winter competition schedules.

The varsity boys basketball team played their first game of the season on Wednesday, November 30, when they traveled to Stamford, Connecticut’s King School. According to Coach Cook, it was a challenging first game for the Cougars, who fell 55-85 to the Vikings. However, the game gave our players valuable court experience and served as a warm-up for their next tip-off at Capital Prep on Saturday, December 3. Fans should stay tuned for more from the Boys Varsity Basketball team as the season unfolds.

Moving into the month of December, the varsity girls basketball team hit the court running with several successful games and scrimmages already behind them. Their first experience was a successful home scrimmage versus the JV team from Monroe Community College on Saturday, November 19. This early win helped the Cougars build better teamwork on the court, and prepared them for another win, 60-46, when they faced Hoosac on Wednesday, November 23, in their first league game of the season.

Home advantage continued for the Cougars at their scrimmage versus the Sullivan Community College JV squad on Wednesday, November 30. The game was good practice and a comfortable win for the girls who cruised to 66-30 victory against this local college-level JV team. Now, the team is getting ready for the upcoming 3-day Storm Showcase where the Cougars will host the Rivers School, Marianopolis College, and Busche Academy on Friday, December 2, through Sunday, December 4.

Storm King’s fencing and wrestling teams have also started their winter training with their competitive schedules beginning after the New Year. Go, Cougars!
