CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONS

On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, The Storm King School hosted the Hudson Valley Athletic League Cross Country Championship Meet. Storm King’s harriers absolutely dominated the competition winning the boys team championship by more than 40 points to repeat as HVAL conference champion this year.

Finishing to the sound of Mr. Freeman’s bagpipes, Storm King was led by Senior Keegan Jemal and Sophomore Misha Medvedev finishing first and second in the race respectively. Cem Taviloglu (4), Sebastian Zucker (6), and Lorenzo Pretto (8) rounded out the scoring for Storm King in an unprecedented demonstration of supremacy over the competition.

SOCCER AND VOLLEYBALL A CLEAN SWEEP

Other SKS teams played their final day of the regular season for HVAL Conference matches on Wednesday. Poughkeepsie Day School fell prey to the vehemence of Storm King’s Student Athletes as our teams swept the competition winning every event.

Our Girls Volleyball teams traveled to Poughkeepsie Day School where Head Volleyball Coach McMahon reported, “PDS graciously recognized all the seniors on both teams. The JV team started slowly dropping the first game 17-25, but not without great play by Gloria Wang and excellent serving from Amy Wang. The team rebounded to take game 2, 25-10 with both Montsey Abad and Anna Saliya serving perfectly. The team continued to dominate the 3rd tiebreaker game to win the match 15-9 with superb game play from Michelle Chen and Iris Zhang. It was a great match and the teamwork and support was second to none!

SKS Girls Volleyball Captain Ashira Mayers at the net

“The varsity team started strongly winning 25-16. We lost some momentum dropping game 2, 20-25 while struggling to get our rhythm. I was very proud of the team for keeping an upbeat and positive outlook, staying focused, and winning the mental game, which lead to a victory in game 3, 25-14. It was all Liza Shligerska serving for 13 of the game’s points and Shay Mayers blocking brilliantly at the net. The team them clinched the win in game 4, 25-12 with good serving from Shligerska, Mayers, and Allegra Walker (all with 5 each) and good digs from Courtney Foster and Rory Tobin.”

STATS TO DATE: 8 WINS – 5 LOSSES – 0 TIE

SKS girls display great teamwork on the field

On the pitch at PDS, our Girls Varsity Soccer team continued to roll through the conference with a convincing 5-1 win in a match that was riddled with bad calls and new rules. Our girls were able to overcome their surroundings and, led by goals by Cierra Martin (2), Ary Martin (2), and Samantha McCullough, took control of the match and finished strong. With the win, our girls finished the HVAL regular season at 8-0 and had an overall record of 9-5.

SKS’s Eduardo Vallarta Pena

The Poughkeepsie Day School boys soccer team arrived on the Mountain with great optimism for their match with the conference’s top team – SKS Boys Varsity Soccer. Their confidence ended abruptly as Storm King exploded from the first whistle scoring four goals in the first fifteen minutes of the match. “Tiki-Taka” was in high gear today with our boys moving the ball all over the field at will eliciting a relentless assault on the PDS goal. Storm King finished with an 8-2 victory with goals by Eduardo Vallarta Pena (4), Pablo de la Camara (3), and Alonso Gonzalez. While it is difficult to maintain a high intensity level once a match is “in hand,” our boys performed at a level wherein they could play with any NEPSAC team. As the season winds down and with playoffs looming, Storm King’s record stands at 11-0 in conference and 15-3-1 overall.

STATS TO DATE: 15 WINS – 3 LOSSES – 1 TIE
