Storm King’s virtual Alumni Speaker Series continued to engage the school community through the month of November. On Thursday, November 19, a group of alumni and faculty from the 1970s met on Zoom to reconnect, catch up, and share tales and memories from their time on the Mountain.

Fourteen alumni including Mike Brophey ’72, Lynn Crevling ’72, Scott Cantor ’73, Duffy French ’73, Jim Perlberg ‘70, Sue Montgomery Sinclair ’75,  Mike Sloan ‘77, Amy Ossias Bright ’79, Joanna Bennet ‘75, Sarah L’Heureux ’74, Glenn Fiedelholtz ’74, Jeanne Stoddard Edwards ’71, Wray Farmin ‘72, and David Kratka ’73; and five past faculty members including Rande McGivern McCollum, Bill Cesario, Les McLean, Tom Sutphen, and Paul Davis were joined by current Head of School Jon Lamb for the event.

To kick off the discussion, each participant was asked to share a brief introduction or remembrance. Most told a story, gave an update, or showed a photo or a gift from their time at Storm King that they kept and still treasured. Tom Sutphen, who taught at SKS from 1971 through 1974, had never been back to campus, with “the exception of driving by one rainy day but not stopping.”

He wasn’t the only one who had never been back, while others said they visited campus and with one another often. After initial introductions, the evening continued as a lively group discussion. Happily there to connect or reconnect, recall the times, and remember their alma mater, it was clear that the 1970’s Zoom participants shared the same sentiment as Glenn Fiedelholtz ’74: “SKS changed my life – I was lucky to have come to SKS.”

After a winter hiatus, the 2020-2021 virtual Alumni Speaker Series will resume in February 2021. Watch for details about upcoming events.
