The Storm King School community gathered in the Walter Reade Jr. Theatre for the Spring Music Recital, an evening that highlighted the work students have put into their music throughout the semester and offered seniors an opportunity for a final performance as they near graduation.
The program opened with the Storm King Band Ensemble. The group performed Weezer’s “Buddy Holly,” featuring Santiago S. ’26 on vocals, with Brandon M. ‘29 on drums, Andy C. ’26 on keyboards, Otis B. ’28 on bass, and Peter R. ‘27 on guitar. A lively instrumental version of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” followed, showcasing the group’s coordination and musical talent. The set concluded with Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” with Lambert L. ’28 on drums and Santiago returning on vocals.
The choral portion of the program featured a mix of solo and small group performances. Evie T. ’29 sang “The Rainbow Connection,” followed by a series of duets: Elijah F. ‘27 and Selina Z. sang “It’s a Dangerous Game,” Kaitlyn M. ’27 and Brandon performed “Falling Slowly,” and Santiago and Rebecca H. ‘28 sang “Seventeen.” Santiago and Brandon also teamed up to perform “Man or Muppet.”
A small ensemble performed “First Burn,” bringing a different vocal texture to the program. The recital also included an emotional senior feature, with Santiago performing “A Change Is Gonna Come.” The evening concluded with the full chorus performing Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The ensemble—Elijah, Kaitlyn, Brandon, Rebecca, Milana R. ‘28, Kira S. ‘28, Santiago, Evie, and Selina—closed the show with a strong and cohesive performance.
Thank you to all of the student performers for their work, as well as to Music Director Paul Connors and the performing arts faculty for their guidance. Appreciation also goes to Theater Technical Director Eliza Brown and the student tech crew for their support behind the scenes.
