After a restful summer, The Storm King School campus is bustling with activity as 170 young scholars from 20 countries and 10 states converge on campus for the 2023-2024 school year. The first to arrive were our new international students, who spent their first week on the Mountain immersed in activities designed to help them get acquainted and settle into their new surroundings. After a busy week, their initial orientation culminated with an exciting four-day trip to Washington, D.C.

During their stay in our nation’s capital, the students visited the National Mall, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, the Smithsonian Museums of Natural History and American History, and the Pentagon among other historic locations. They also sampled great food including lunch at the DC Hard Rock Café. The group topped off their trip with a visit to Six Flags America before returning to campus.

The following week, the rest of the student body arrived ready to begin the school year. Students and families spent their first morning visiting various stations set up in Orr Commons and around the campus to meet their teachers, finalize their class schedules, and complete their sign-ups for activities and clubs. In the afternoon, families had the option of taking a tour of the campus and attending a Parents’ Meeting in Ogden Hall. After their families departed, all students got acquainted at their first dinner together on campus before settling into their dormitories and getting to know one another.

The fall semester for all students officially began on the first day of school with orientation activities including an outdoor field day, a hike up Storm King Mountain, shopping trips, museum visits, and more to close out the students’ first week. Following Labor Day weekend, academic classes begin according to the School’s regular schedule.  We’re excited to have another group of exceptional students on campus and we wish everyone a successful start to the fall semester. It’s going to be a great year!
