Congratulations to Storm King junior Anna Volkova who was recognized for her artistic talent by Scholastic this year. On Friday, February 5, Anna attended Scholastic’s 2021 Art & Writing Awards Ceremony for the Hudson Valley via Zoom where she received a Gold Award for her oil on canvas painting titled Birds of a Feather. A talented student-artist, Anna’s artwork has been highlighted during Storm King’s Spring Arts Weekend and one of her works was used on the cover of the School’s official holiday card this year.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12. Students from across the country submit nearly 350,000 original works each year in 29 different categories of art and writing including photography, painting, digital art, poetry, science fiction & fantasy, and others. The top student-artists and writers at the regional level are then moved on to the national stage. Anna, having won a Hudson Valley Gold Award, will be automatically entered into the national competition which will give out awards in March 2021.
Winning a Scholastic medal at any level is a noteworthy achievement and can play an important role while applying for college and scholarships. Kudos to Anna for her excellent work!
