Here is the latest news from rising senior Anora M. ’22, who just completed her summer Advanced Law & Trial Internship offered by Leadership Initiatives Youth Development Programs (LIYDP). Anora, who aspires to become a lawyer, received a full scholarship to attend the program which is geared toward helping outstanding high school students gain real-world experience, explore future careers, and develop critical skills in the field of law.

The program, which was originally scheduled to take place at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., was conducted virtually earlier this month. Despite the online format, Anora had an amazing experience working hands-on with law professionals, members of congressional offices, advocacy groups, and other prominent organizations in the D.C. area. Witness preparation, cross examination, trial and hearing etiquette, advocacy planning and follow-up, and written briefings were only some of the areas she explored along with her fellow interns.

According to LIYDP’s youth development programs director, Anora’s participation was exceptional. In a letter to Storm King, she wrote: “We were incredibly impressed by Anora’s comprehensive understanding of [her] case, thoughtful questions, and outstanding work with her team in order to help the client. On behalf of everyone at Leadership Initiatives, it has truly been a pleasure to work with Anora this summer…and we cannot wait to share case updates with [her] in the coming months to showcase her hard work.” Great job, Anora!
