The first days of school are always a very exciting time for Storm King’s Department of Athletics, and fall has always been a great season for the Cougars. This year, Athletic Director Nicole Cervantes has declared the theme “We are Storm King” – a quest for all Cougar athletes to thoroughly embody our school’s core values of ‘Truth, Respect, Responsibility’ not only in sports, but in all facets of their lives.

To get our fall teams off to a great start, Storm King Athletics has worked hard during the summer to prepare for the arrival of our students who are anxious to participate in fall sports and clubs. “The first things students will notice when they get here are some wonderful new spaces available in the gymnasium,” explained Dr. Cervantes. “Our new Equipment and Team Room houses all of our teams’ gear in an organized fashion. Teams and coaches can also get together before and after games to do their “chalk talk” and pump up their team spirit. We also created a new Training Room complete with an ice machine, stretching tables, and first aid kits where athletes can tape ankles, do rehab exercises, and tend to minor injuries. Students can also look forward to an updated roster of varsity, junior varsity, and club sports/activities that appeal to a wide range of interests, including outdoor adventure, art club, recreational tennis, and rowing.”

Fall athletic practices begin on Thursday, August 31. “I’m really looking forward to meeting and getting to know our new student-athletes and working with our returning Cougars to continue to build their skills,” continued Dr. Cervantes. I hope everyone will come to visit me in the gym once they’ve arrived and get settled in. This year, we are promoting the theme “We are Storm King.” It is our goal to build up some Cougar spirit and rally the community around our school’s core values of ‘Truth, Respect, Responsibility.’ Stay tuned for our upcoming Cougar pep rallies, winter Madness on the Mountain, and more exciting news from Storm King Athletics.”
