The Storm King School Department of Visual and Performing Arts will perform three lively and colorful shows of Mamma Mia! on February 22 – 24.

Under the guidance of Directors Anne Fulton and Karen Eremin and choreographer Jeanette Jacobson, the cast members of this year’s much-awaited winter musical have been hard at work since early December. Following back-to-back dress rehearsals in the coming weeks, the popular show Mamma Mia! will be performed at the Walter Reade, Jr. Theatre on Friday, February 22, and Saturday, February 23, at 7:00 pm and on Sunday, February 24, at 3:00 pm.

Set on a colorful Greek Island, Sophie, a young woman about to be married, discovers that any one of three men could be her father. She invites all three to her wedding without telling her mother, Donna, who was once the lead singer of Donna & the Dynamos. In the meantime, Donna has invited her former backup singers, Rosie and Tanya. The plot serves as a background for a wealth of ABBA songs: Money, Money, Dancing Queen, Waterloo, and Take a Chance on Me to name a few.

The wedding scene

“The directors, cast, and crew, led by Lindsay Myers-Brown and A. River Holasek ‘20, have been working very hard all winter, despite all the bad weather we’ve had. The scenes and musical numbers are really coming together, and the costumes are fantastic. Everyone involved is doing a great job and it’s sure to be a wonderful performance,” explained an enthusiastic Mrs. Fulton, the Director of Theater at Storm King.
