The Storm King boys tennis team concluded an outstanding spring season by capturing the HVAL League Championship title for the 11th year in a row, continuing one of the School’s most impressive winning streaks. In the Hudson Valley Athletic League (HVAL) final against EF Academy, Patrik P. ’27, Arthur P. ’27, and Luis G. ’26 each earned singles victories to give the Cougars a commanding 3-0 lead before rain forced play to stop. EF Academy later conceded the remaining matches, officially securing another HVAL championship for Storm King.

The week prior, the team advanced to the final with an impressive 7-2 semifinal victory over Woodstock Day School. Effective singles wins from Patrik P. ’27, Tokiwa Y. ’28, Arthur P. ’27, and Luis G. ’26 gave Storm King early momentum, while the doubles teams continued their strong play throughout the afternoon. Patrik P. ’27 / Tokiwa Y. ’28 earned an 8-4 win, Arthur P. ’27 / Luis G. ’26 cruised to an 8-2 victory, and Emmett J. ’27 / Chris L. ’29 added another point with an 8-6 win.

The championship run highlighted what had already been a strong season for the team under coaches Paul Feffer and Dan DeLuzio. The boys finished with a 9-3 overall record and showed steady improvement throughout the spring, earning dominant victories including a 9-0 sweep over Marvelwood and convincing 8-1 wins against Oakwood and Northern Academy. The regular season also ended on a high note with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over O’Neill High School.

According to Coach Feffer, a major strength of the team was its depth and balance throughout the lineup: “While our top 6 players brought the trophy home, the support from all the team members who came out for practice all season contributed to the competitions that got us here!” Patrik P. ’27 and Tokiwa Y. ’28 consistently led the way in singles play, while Arthur P. ’27, Luis G. ’26, Ryder H. ’26, Emmett J. ’27, and Max G. ’28 delivered key wins throughout the season. The doubles teams also developed strong chemistry as the spring progressed, with partnerships like Patrik P. ’27 / Tokiwa Y. ’28 and Arthur P. ’27 / Luis G. ’26 becoming especially dominant. Additional team members Chris L. ’29, David T. ’28, George W. ’27—who was playing tennis for the first time—and Ronan K. ’29 also contributed by competing in matches during the season.

The team’s confidence and consistency grew throughout the season, turning early close matches into decisive victories by the end of the spring. Led by a strong group of seniors including Luis G. ’26, Ryder H. ’26, Steven J. ’26, and Clay Z. ’26, and supported by a talented returning core, the boys finished the year as HVAL champions once again. Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff on another remarkable season and an incredible championship streak dating back to 2014.
