The Storm King School is proud to share that Raymond Hecht, Assistant Head of School for Finance and CFO, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Will Hancock Unsung Hero Award by the National Business Officers Association (NBOA).

This prestigious national award honors business officers in independent schools who make exceptional, behind-the-scenes contributions to their institutions. Named in memory of Will Hancock—a pioneer in the profession—the award recognizes those whose quiet leadership strengthens the foundation of their schools and supports the success of students, faculty, and staff alike.

Ray is one of just twelve professionals from across the country to receive this recognition in 2025, and the honor is richly deserved. Over the past 14 years at Storm King, Ray has guided the School through significant growth and improvement. Under his financial and operational leadership, enrollment increased by more than 45%, the campus nearly doubled in size, and saw major upgrades in infrastructure and aesthetics. But perhaps more than numbers or buildings, Ray’s true strength lies in his thoughtful, steady approach and his commitment to doing what’s best for Storm King students.

In the award nomination, Storm King leadership wrote: “Ray always keeps students first, and his steadfast leadership, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence have helped our school thrive every day—quietly but powerfully shaping our future.”

This prestigious recognition comes at a special moment, as Ray prepares to retire at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Please join us in congratulating Ray Hecht on receiving the Will Hancock Unsung Hero Award. We thank him for everything he’s done—and continues to do—for The Storm King School.
