For three nights in February, the Walter Reade Jr. Theatre transformed into a cryptic but glamorous venue for the spooky, kooky fun of The Addams Family. With a gothic set, dazzling costumes, and a cast that brought each character to life, Storm King’s winter musical kept audiences entertained with humor, energetic choreography, and strong acting. Many attendees called it one of our best shows yet, setting a new high bar for The Storm King School Performing Arts Department.

A comical take on family dynamics, The Addams Family follows Wednesday Addams, who falls in love with a sweet young man from a respectable family—a nightmare for her devoted father, Gomez. She confides in him about their engagement but begs him not to tell her mother, Morticia. When the Addams family hosts a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his bewildered parents, the night unfolds with hilarious misunderstandings and emotional moments.

Performing Arts Chair Anne Fulton praised the cast’s hard work and dedication. “We knew we had the perfect group for this show,” she said. “Santiago was fantastic as Gomez, Andrea shone as Morticia, and Christine was perfect for the part of Wednesday.”

The supporting cast also stood out, with Adrian as a comical Uncle Fester and Kaitlyn charming as Pugsley. “Milana was fantastic as Grandma, and Antonio played a perfect Lurch,” Mrs. Fulton added. “Milo, in his first production, did a great job as Lucas, while Nyla and Dante played his very confused parents wonderfully.”

The show’s success was also credited to the hardworking ensemble and production crew. “The chorus of Addams Ancestors added so much to the production,” Mrs. Fulton noted. She also praised Jeanette Jacobson’s choreography, Gabi Mikova-Johnson and Paul Connors’ musical direction, and Eliza Brown’s work on the set and lighting. “The stunning costumes by Veronika Hindle, who also worked on our production of Cinderella last year, really completed the look.”

Storm King’s winter musical, The Addams Family, is a perfect example of what students can achieve in the School’s Performing Arts program. As Mrs. Fulton shared, “We felt very fortunate to have such a talented group work on this production.” With excellent casting, outstanding acting, and creative staging and costumes, The Addams Family was a memorable theatrical experience for all and a showcase of the artistic excellence that defines the Storm King School Performing Arts program.
