Headmaster Jonathan Lamb announced that NASA astronaut Timothy L. Kopra (Colonel, U.S. Army ret.) will be the speaker at The Storm King School’s 149th Commencement this June.

Selected as an astronaut in 2000 following a distinguished academic and military career, Kopra returned from the International Space Station on June 19, 2016. There, he served as a flight engineer on Expedition 46 and commander of Expedition 47. He is also a veteran of Expedition 20. For that mission, he launched with the STS-127 crew and returned to Earth after a 2-month stay with the crew of STS-128. Prior to his work at NASA, the Austin, Texas native was also in the U.S. Army where he served as a commander and Operations Officer of the attack helicopter company, Developmental Test Director for the Comanche helicopter program, in addition to attending U.S. Naval Test Pilot School among other duties.

Kopra is a West Point ’85 graduate. He holds three Masters Degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, and an MBA from Columbia University and the London School of Business. The Storm King School’s 149th Commencement exercises are scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10 am.
