The annual Storm King Spring Student Art Exhibition opened at the 2 Alice’s Coffee Lounge in Cornwall-on-Hudson on Friday, March 30. The exhibition features works by SKS’ talented AP Studio Art, Advanced Studio Art, Photography, and Digital Design students. Members of the community including students, faculty, and parents gathered to view the art while they shared coffee and conversation at the opening of the show which took place at 6:00 pm on Friday evening.
Headmaster Jonathan Lamb and Toni Scherrer were among the first guests to arrive and congratulate the students on their works. The lounge filled up quickly with visitors who viewed the artwork and discussed the pieces with the students.
Student-artist and senior Zhoushi Ichabod Ren, who has been accepted at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design this coming fall, used the works of Vincent Van Gogh as the inspiration behind his piece. “I am a big fan of Van Gogh and I mirrored his style in parts of my painting,” he explained.
The artistic duo of juniors Siyu Gloria Wang and Xuenchun Iris Zhang explained that they wanted to express elements of their Chinese culture while using the American pop-art style. They also chose to incorporate three-dimensional elements into their paintings such as orchid flowers.
Headmaster Lamb commented that he was very impressed with the level of work the students produced. “Our student-artists have created many great works again this year. I encourage everyone in our community to visit the show in support of them and of Storm King’s thriving art program,” explained Mr. Lamb.
The exhibition at 2 Alice’s will run through Sunday, April 22.
