At our final arts event this spring, The Storm King School’s student-dancers captivated the audience at the Spring Dance Recital 2023. Eight graduating seniors along with eight underclassmen performed 30 outstanding dance routines for the school community at the Walter Reade, Jr. Theatre. Members of the audience agreed that it was “the perfect way to conclude the semester and begin Senior Week.”

To kick off the show, all 16 students in Mrs. Jacobson’s spring dance class performed together to Prince’s famous hit “When Doves Cry.” The evening continued with a series of solo and group routines choreographed to a wide range of musical genres including love songs, dance tracks, contemporary pieces, and several international numbers in Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish. For the final routine, all 16 dancers were on stage again to perform to a lively rendition of “Rhythm is a Dancer.” A dance number, “A Million Dreams” performed by all of the graduating seniors, was another highlight of the show.

In her opening words, Mrs. Jacobson recognized the eight graduating seniors for their accomplishments during their years at Storm King. “Seeing all them perform was bittersweet,” Mrs. Jacobson explained following the show. “I enjoyed working with them so much. Choreographing their senior piece, “A Million Dreams,” was both fun and emotional. They have come so far in their years at SKS, and in my dance class. We will be sad to see them go, but I know they are well-prepared for college and beyond.”

Mrs. Jacobson continued by praising the other eight students in her class. “I am so proud of the work all the dancers did in this particular show. For several of them, it was their first time taking a dance class, and I am so impressed with their progress and level of confidence.” Head of School Jonathan Lamb, who was also in the audience, echoed Mrs. Jacobson’s comments: “The variety and energy in last night’s show was exceptional.  We will certainly miss the eight seniors who have worked so hard over their years here– congratulations for all you have accomplished. And thanks to the stage crew, the audience, and to all of our parents and guests who have supported these students and the School.”
