On an enchanted spring evening atop Storm King Mountain, the school community witnessed the transformation of a beloved fairy tale into a magical musical performance. Three remarkable shows of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s timeless classic, Cinderella, were staged at the Walter Reade Jr. Theatre courtesy of The Storm King School’s Performing Arts Department.

Originally gracing television screens in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Cinderella captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Its subsequent adaptations in 1965, starring Lesley Ann Warren, and 1997, featuring Brandy and Whitney Houston, continued the tradition of enchantment, each one touching the hearts of its viewers.

The version of the romantic fairy tale brought to life by Storm King School students, the Enchanted Edition inspired by the 1997 teleplay, is known for resonating with audiences of all ages and filling the stage with a blend of warmth, magic, and humor.

“In addition to great songs, this version of Cinderella has a lot of comedy, which is what drew me to it when we were choosing this year’s musical,” explained Performing Arts Chair Anne Fulton. “There are several versions available, but we felt that the Enchanted Edition was the best fit for our students. Our cast had a lot fun with their parts, and really grew into their characters. The cast had several students who had never performed before. Our audience was very enthusiastic for each performance, which helped a great deal to boost their confidence. Everyone did an amazing job and we’re looking forward to their participation in the program again next year.”
