To sharpen their focus and reconnect after more than a year of hybrid and remote instruction, teachers at The Storm King School were back on campus recently to attend in-service meetings and workshops before classes begin on September 1. Their excitement to be back in-person is unanimous and Assistant Head of School for Academics Dr. Tim Lance is confident our incoming students will share the same excitement. “Administration and faculty have been working over the summer to review each department’s course offerings, fine-tune the class schedule for our return to in-person instruction, and register everyone for their classes. When students arrive, they will be happy to see a resumption of most of our pre-pandemic schedule with a few health and safety protocols remaining,” explained Dr. Lance.

Their five-day Faculty In-Service took place both in-person and virtually, and included sessions covering academics, student and dorm life, athletics and activities, technology, and CPR certification training for faculty and staff. Highlights included two workshops by personal trainer and sports nutritionist Jessika Raime on post-pandemic self-care for faculty and a special coaches’ workshop to help re-engage our teams. To top off the week, the group had the chance to unwind and get their feet wet on a scenic Hudson River kayaking trip to Pollepel Island and a tour of Bannerman Castle.

Many thanks go out to this year’s In-Service organizers and presenters, and all of the faculty and staff who participated. “I believe these in-service workshops helped all of us reconnect and prepare for the arrival of our students. With the positive energy and feedback I experienced, I’m confident our school is ready for the new academic year,” commented Dean of Faculty Jeremy Freeman.
