2019 Fall Parents Weekend took place on Friday, October 11, and Saturday, October 12. More than 50 families visited the campus to meet with their children’s teachers and get an inside look at academic and student life at Storm King. Over the weekend, families and students also enjoyed Homecoming festivities and cheered on the Cougars at the Homecoming athletic games.

As parents arrived at lunchtime on Friday, they were greeted in Orr Commons before heading off to meet with faculty to discuss their children’s academic progress. The crisp fall weather was perfect and the campus was bustling as families walked from building to building to attend their scheduled meetings.

As evening set in, parents made their way up to The Homestead for a reception hosted by Headmaster Jonathan Lamb. There, they sampled light fare and socialized with faculty members and fellow parents. Following the reception, all were encouraged to attend a formal dinner at Henderson Dining Hall before watching the first visual and performing arts recital of the year in the Walter J. Reade Theatre. After the show, students celebrated the Cougars at a Homecoming bonfire.

On Saturday, Parent-Teacher meetings continued throughout the morning, including a College Planning Workshop hosted by Storm King’s College Counseling Office. After the workshop, many parents remained on campus to enjoy brunch watch a Homecoming athletic game on Saturday afternoon. For students, the weekend culminated with the much-awaited Homecoming Dance in the gymnasium on Saturday evening.

Friday evening’s recital was one of the highlights of the weekend showcasing outstanding performances and artwork by our students. Visual Arts Chair John Carruthers, Performing Arts Chair Anne Fulton, Music Director Alva Nelson, and Dance Instructor Jeanette Jacobson were all very pleased with the outcome of the show. “Congratulations to all the students who are a part of our first recital of the year. There is so much talent at Storm King. Our first recital is always exciting as the students have such a short time to prepare,” explained Mrs. Fulton before the show.

Homecoming Weekend was also an exciting time for Storm King Athletics with five teams competing against Marvelwood on our home turf.  According to the coaches, “the Cougars had a great weekend full of school spirit. Four of the five teams on the roster achieved winning results and both teams, the Cougars and the Pterodactyls, enjoyed the weather and our beautiful surroundings. It was a great day to celebrate Homecoming.”
