The Storm King School recently received the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles (CSP). Schools honored with this award have expanded female enrollment in AP computer science courses. SKS was one of 760 schools recognized in 2021 in the CSP category.
“By encouraging young women to study advanced computer science coursework, The Storm King School is closing the gap in computer science education and empowering young women to access the opportunities available in STEM career fields,” said Stefanie Sanford, College Board chief of Global Policy and External Relations. “Computer science is the foundation of many 21st-century career options, and young women deserve equal opportunities to pursue computer science education and drive technological innovation.”
“We’re very pleased that our school earned this recognition, and we look forward to seeing all of our students pursue and achieve success in computer science education and careers,” said Head of School Jonathan W.R. Lamb. Science Department Chair and AP Computer Science Principles instructor Dr. Paul Feffer commented, “Computer science, and more generally, ‘computational thinking,’ is becoming more and more embedded in our modern way of life. It’s great that students of any gender are not intimidated by classes such as this one which opens minds to new concepts and doors to new careers.”
