During the spring season, the SKS Cougars have maintained their enthusiasm for competition, despite facing persistent rain and less-than-ideal field conditions that have posed challenges to their momentum. Despite numerous cancellations of games and practices due to inclement weather, our athletes have persevered, keeping their spirits high. According to their coaches, the Cougars are as determined as ever to showcase their skills on the field and court despite obstacles nature has thrown their way.

In April, the varsity boys volleyball team was on the road to EF Academy for their first game on April 3, the Cougars suffered a defeat, losing in three games to an athletic EF squad. “I was very proud of how the boys competed and worked as a team. Ren T. ’26 was fabulous as our setter–solid, stable and focused. Tolik T. ’25 had a team high number of digs as our libero and Dongwoo R. ’26 had a 7-serve run in the second match,” commented Coach Cunningham after the game.
Undeterred by the setback, the SKS team returned to their home court to take on Iona Prep on April 10, securing an exhilarating victory in three sets (25-23, 25-14, 25-20). Coach Cunningham commended the entire team for their collective effort, emphasizing the contributions from all active players in achieving the win.
With their sights set on continuing their winning momentum, the Cougars are eagerly preparing for their upcoming rematch against Iona Prep on April 27, aiming to clinch a second triumph on the road.
The SKS Ultimate Frisbee team, reigning 2023 HVAL champions, kicked off their competitive season on April 6 with a challenging match against Wooster, resulting in a tough 2-11 loss. Despite this setback, the Cougars swiftly rallied, showcasing their resilience against Northern Academy on April 10, securing a decisive 15-7 victory. Continuing their momentum, the Cougars traveled to NYMA on April 15, claiming another comfortable win with a score of 15-6 against the Knights.
Returning to their home turf just two days later, Storm King faced off against Oakwood in a fiercely contested battle, ultimately falling short with a final score of 9-15 in favor of the Lions. Undeterred, the Cougars remained determined as they hosted NYMA once again, engaging in a hard-fought match that ended in a narrow 13-15 defeat.
Despite the mixed results, Coach Fulton maintains confidence in the Storm King team’s trademark teamwork and solid gameplay, showing their resilience and untapped potential for the remainder of the season.
The SKS varsity boys lacrosse team is on a mission this year, regrouping and dedicating themselves to sharpening their skills on the field. In their first games of the season against Wooster, Salisbury School, and Woodhall, the Cougars experienced tough losses, but the setbacks haven’t dampened their spirits. Instead, the team is using them as motivation to work even harder and improve. “We are determined and keeping a positive mindset, and we are eager to continue practicing our skills on the field,” explained Coach Hammell.
In April, the SKS varsity girls lacrosse team took to the field against the Kent JV squad and the Wooster Generals in challenging matchups. Adverse weather conditions limited their practice opportunities, but the Cougars displayed unwavering determination, giving their all in both contests. Despite falling short in both games, the team maintains their focus on gaining valuable lessons from the experience and enhancing their skills. Maintaining n positive outlook, the Cougars are eagerly anticipating the chance to reverse their fortunes in the remaining games of the season.
On April 10, the SKS baseball team stepped up to the plate against Oakwood Friends School, demonstrating their skills in batting, catching, and pitching. Despite delivering strong performances on the mound and field, the Cougars finished on the losing end of a 7-10 score against the Lions. Rather than allowing the setback to deflate their morale, the Cougars remain determined to rebound with even greater strength in their upcoming games in May.
