Storm King student athletes were perfect today, easily winning all four contests.  The girls soccer team hit the field running and never let the heat or their opposition deter them from winning their match 8-0 over league rival Marvelwood.  Our girls were led by Shania Roehrich with three goals, Aryana Martin with two, and Savannah Buon, Sam McCullough, and Elizabeth Pomeroy with one each.  Naunet Leonhardes-Barboza was outstanding in the goal with Tiana Vazquez and Maria Fedosenkova anchoring the back line.  The girls have established themselves as the team to beat in the conference this year with a 2-0 start in league play.

Coach Snyder reported the following about volleyball: “Both JV and Varsity Volleyball won their matches today. JV won 2-0 against Oakwood and Varsity won 3-1 against Poughkeepsie Day School. Both teams demonstrated how serving wins games. JV players Jenna Smith and Iris Zhang dominated in serving with Jenna having the game-winning serve. Varsity demonstrated teamwork and pulling together for a tough win. Rory Tobin and Catherine Zhang had double digit scoring numbers with their serves alone. Rory scored 14 points in a row in the first game, pushing the Cougars to win the first match 25-8. Both teams are showing how their hard work in practice is paying off during matches.”

Henry Aleman

The boys soccer team hosted Poughkeepsie Day School, a team that always plays well against Storm King.  Our guys jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the match with a powerful goal by Henry Aleman and another by Eduardo Pena.  Storm King struggled in the attacking third of the field for the next 50 minutes of the match while dominating the possession and run of play.  Our boys finally exploded in the final 15 minutes for three magnificent goals, two from Pena and one from Martin Prochazka.  Storm King played solid defense with Alex Costemalle in the goal and Igor Zelenko, Daniel Armandi, Leonardo Zhou and Guillermo Ramos Sanchez securing the defensive third of the pitch.  The emergence of Sean Witte as an outstanding defender has helped to solidify Storm King’s back line.  Storm King’s record is now 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
