As Storm King Athletics enters the month of November, two Cougar teams have wrapped up their competitive seasons, and the others are playing their final games before the upcoming Hudson Valley Athletic League (HVAL) championship tournaments later this month. Congratulations to Girls Cross Country for winning the 2023 HVAL championship trophy at their final meet and kudos to the boys cross country team for a race well-run.
The girls cross country team successfully wrapped up their season at the HVAL Championship, winning the trophy at their final meet held on the Storm King School campus. Unphased by a last-minute change of course, senior Marisa C. ’24, one of the Cougars’ top runners, got down to business placing 1st overall with a time of 21.35.7, edging out Darrow’s 2nd place runner Wren C. by more than 2 seconds. Storm King’s other runners also placed well, including Elizabeth U. ‘26 finishing 3rd at 25:21.8, Eva G. ’26 in 5th at 25:52.3, followed Leni R. ’26 in 12th place at 28:17.5 and Christine S. ’25 in 14th place with a time of 31:24.3. According to Coach Finn-Atkins, many runners enjoyed the revised route, and she praised her team for having a great season and a great day.
Final Season Standing: 3 W – 4 L, 2023 HVAL Champions
The boys cross country team also concluded their season at the HVAL Championship meet along with the girls team. According to Coach Finn-Atkins, the Cougars ran hard-fought races, with the boys team finishing 4th overall. Storm King’s top runners included Joshua C. ’24 in second at 19:13.3, Liam M. ’27 in 6th at 19:44.0, and Vincent I. ’24 in 17th at 21:43.6. “It was a rollercoaster season with some ups and downs. I’m very proud of the boys team and the hard work of each runner throughout the season,” commented Coach Finn-Atkins after the meet.

As their whirlwind season winds down, the Cougars traveled to historic rival NYMA to kick off the month of November. Coach Bennett commented that the team played “incredibly well,” bringing them to their 6th consecutive win, 5-2, over the Knights. Luciano C. ’26 scored 3 goals with Mohanad A. ’25 and Steven C. ’27 scoring 1 goal each, along with 2 assists by Tolik T. ’25 and 1 assist by Emilio J. ’27. The Cougars look forward to one more league game before hosting the HVAL quarterfinals later this month.

Entering the month of November, the girls varsity volleyball team added one more game to their competitive roster when they faced EF Academy on the SKS courts. Following a disappointing loss to Wooster the weekend before, the Cougars were ready for redemption. Their excellent play at the net and strong serving paid off, resulting in a 3-1 win over their opponent. The girls have one more season game before competing in the HVAL quarterfinals later in the month.
