The excitement continues for the SKS Cougars as their spring schedules progress and the warm weather is here to stay.

The following Wednesday, April 12, the Cougars kept up their winning momentum when they traveled to EF Academy. In singles, the boys played two six-game sets with a 10-point tie-breaker for split sets which resulted in 3 wins and 1 loss. Yusei S. ‘25 at #4 went the full distance, winning 10-7 in the tie-breaker. Hugo L. ’23 lost at #1 in straight sets. Tony B. ’24 and Sagan N. ’25 had easy wins at #2 and #3. Storm King will continue on their home courts when they host Wooster on Saturday, April 29.
The girls lacrosse team played their second game of the season against Millbrook on Wednesday, April 19, following their season opener loss to Kent. The hard-fought face-off ended in an 11-14 score with Millbrook taking the win. According to Coach Cervantes, “the Cougars were neck and neck up until the last five minutes of the game. Emma C. ‘27 shone on defense with her fast movements and quick thinking. Marisa C. ’23 was the top scorer with four goals with Bella S. ’24 and Ari L. ’24 right behind her.”
Hoping to turn the tide in their favor, Cougars will host Rye, New York’s Holy Child on Thursday, April 27.
Despite a disappointing loss against Hoosac the previous week, SKS Baseball was set on gaining a win when they faced historic rival NYMA on Wednesday, April 19. Pounding out 18 hits en route to a 24-9 victory over the Knights, eight out the nine batters in the Cougar line-up had at least one hit with multiple hit performances from Eddy I. ’23, Jack M. ‘24, Jack H. ’26, SJ L. ‘25, Sota K. ’24, and Logan K. ’27. After a tough match against Marvelwood earlier this month, the girls tennis team practiced hard before traveling to Westchester County, New York, to face Harvey on Friday, April 14. In both singles and doubles play, the Cougars fought hard but ultimately fell to the Cavaliers, 1-6, while gaining more experience at the net.
In their next match, the girls served against EF Academy on Thursday, April 20, on the SKS courts. Unfortunately, home advantage didn’t help the Cougars who fell in both singles and doubles play for a 0-7 loss. On the road to Hamden Hall the following Wednesday, April 26, the girls played toward a similar fate gaining more court experience despite their loss, 0-8, to the Hornets. Now, the team’s sites are set on their rematch against EF Academy on Friday, May 5.
Following their well-played loss against EF Academy the previous week, the Cougars were hungry for a win when they faced Montfort on Tuesday, April 18 on their home court.
According to Coach Cervantes, SKS used many different line-ups, giving every team member a chance to play. The first set was plagued by service errors but not enough to drop the contest. The second and third sets were the most intense as both setters took an opportunity to individually run the offense and lead the team to a 3-0 victory.
Next up, the Cougars are looking forward to the challenge of a big rematch with EF Academy on Tuesday, May 2.
Following their successful season opener versus Oakwood Friends, the Cougars hosted the Frederick Gunn School JV team on Saturday, April 8. According to Coach Fulton, the SKS team “put forth a dominant performance against Frederick Gunn despite being short-handed, ending with a winning score of 10-5.”
