With their December schedules well underway, the girls and boys varsity basketball teams continued to heat up the courts here on the Mountain and on the road.
The varsity boys basketball team continued to gear up for competition this month. After an early December cancellation, the Cougars hosted NEPSAC class B Greenwich Country Day School on Wednesday, December 7. According to Coach Cook, the team played with determination and grit throughout the game, ultimately falling to the Tigers 51-60. Next up, the Cougars will host the SKS Tip-off Tournament on December 9-11.
After several winning games and scrimmages to close out November, the varsity girls basketball squad hit the court ready when they hosted AA teams from across New England at the Storm King Showcase. The 3-day tournament on the weekend of December 2-4 yielded mixed results for the Cougars with a tough loss on Day 1, 47-60, to the Rivers School Red Wings. On Day 2, the Cougars came out fighting against Marianopolis Prep, keeping up the score until the final minutes where they ultimately fell to the Golden Knights 44-50. Home advantage and the team’s determination turned things around on Day 3 when the Cougars rallied to win over the Busche Academy Lions 74-55.
For the remainder of December, the Cougars showcased their skills in Washington, D.C. on December 9-11 at the She Got Game Classic, and facing Tabor, Tilton, and New Hampton at the Nickerson Classic on December 16-18. To close out the month, the girls will travel to Hamden Hall on December 28 and ring in the New Year at the Shooting Touch Showcase facing Dexter South Field and Nobles & Greenough on December 30-31.
